Oral Cancer

Oral cancer refers to malignant growths that develop in the tissues of the mouth or throat. It can affect the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, gums, hard and soft palate, and the back of the throat. Classified under head and neck cancers, oral cancer often begins as a small sore or lesion that doesn’t heal. Early symptoms may include a persistent ulcer, pain, difficulty swallowing, white or red patches inside the mouth, or a lump in the neck. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of oral cancer. It can spread rapidly if not detected early. Treatment typically involves surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of these, depending on the stage and location of the cancer. Early diagnosis significantly improves survival rates. Regular dental check-ups are crucial for detecting early warning signs.
